Guwahati  : Assam government will construct 12,000 concrete roads in the state in next three years.
 
Addressing a press conference Assam Public Works Department (PWD) minister Parimal Suklabadya said that, the department has decided to construction 12,000 concrete roads in the localities with a population more than 250 in next three years.
 
For maintenance of roads Rs 2000 crore being assured in the financial year 2016-17 to 2018-19 under ˜Mukhyamantir Path Nirman aru Punor Nirman Achoni, the Assam minister said. 
 
Suklabaidya said that, another new bridge to be constructed over Brahmaputra river from Kuruwa to Narengi with an estimate of Rs 2255 crore.  
 
'The DPR for the new bridge has been finalized and the overall works to be done under NHAI,' the Assam minister said. 
 
The Assam PWD minister further said that, Central Road Fund has been increased from Rs 400 crore to Rs 800 crore and under RIDF XXII, NABARD tendering process for Rs 472 crore has been already initiated.
 
The minister said that, the department had already completed the construction of 502 kms new roads and 106 numbers RCC bridge.
 
'Around 600 kms roads are being repaired and 40 numbers wooden bridge repaired under PWD roads during the present state government tenure,' Suklabaidy said.* 
 
The Assam minister said that, an online e-portal has been developed for computerized business process which included contractors registration process, schemes estimate submission, project monitoring, billing system for hassle free payment and employee information.  
 
'To support the online system the state government had already provided 1500 laptops alongwith 3G data card to the department officials to support the e-portal system,' Suklabaidya said.
 
The Assam PWD minister said that, three new innovative bridges have been taken up in Sonitpur, Lakhimpur and Dibrugarh district.
 
'A South Korean company ISAN Corporation had completed the overall design of the new innovative bridges,' Suklabaidya said.
 
The Assam PWD minister further said that, road research laboratory has been upgraded to Assam road research training institute for capacity building for engineers and contractors of the North Eastern region.
