Guwahati: A hardcore militant belonging to the anti-talk faction group of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) was killed in a gun fight with security forces in Assam’s Kokrajhar district on Saturday morning, officials said.

Based on intelligence input about presence of an armed group in Ripu reserve forest, police and army had jointly launched operation in the reserve forest area near Rangapara village under Gossaigaon police station.

“When the troops had reached the jungle area, the armed militant group started firing and retaliated by the security personnel. One militant killed on spot and 2-3 others had managed to escape into thick jungles,” Assam police IGP (BTAD) Anurag Agarwala said.

The slain militant was identified as Ricardo Hazuary alias Rekhai.

Security personnel had recovered one 9mm pistol with magazine, four rounds live ammunition, two mobile handsets with two SIM cards, extortion letters, three blank NDFB letter heads, incriminating documents in possession from the slain militant.

Meanwhile, additional forces have been rushed to the area and launched massive operation against the fled militants.
