Guwahati: The Anti-Corruption branch of Assam police on Friday had arrested a retired Deputy Commissioner over bribery charges.

According to the reports, the Anti-Corrpution branch had arrested Binod Kumar Deka, retired Deputy Commissioner of Chirang district in connection with ACB PS Case no 25/2017, under section 7/13(1)(d)(ii)/13(2) PC Act as prima facie evidence found about the involvement of Deka in the offence.

Rajib Saikia, Chief Public Relation Officer of Assam police said that, on 22 September, 2017 Champa Basumotary of  Borbori, Srijani Apartment 1B under Dispur police station of Guwahati had submitted a written FIR at ACB PS that accused Deka, who was working as Deputy Commissioner of  Chirang at that time received an amount of Rs 30,000 as bribe  against the sanction of bill for work order dated 31.3.2017.

“In support of her allegation video footage was also given by her. As per the FIR investigation has been carried out and from the material evidence and expert reports, prima facie the charges levelled against Deka has been found to be true. Hence Deka has been arrested today and kept in ACB PS for further follow up action,” Rajib Saikia said.

The arrested retired Deputy Commissioner will be produced before special court in Guwahati tomorrow.
