Guwahati : The troops of Assam Rifles had apprehended six Naga militants including five belonging to NSCN-IM in Nagaland on Monday (March 26) evening, officials said on Tuesday.

According to the reports, the Jalukie  battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR North) conducted an operation based on the specific information   regarding of presence of armed militants  at Itangki area near Athibung.

During the operation, troops of  Assam Rifles  had apprehended  five armed NSCN-IM militants in illegal possession of weapons.

A top official of Assam Rifles said that the movement of armed militant is in violation of agreed Ceasefire Ground Rules.

The apprehendees were identified as Self Styled Maj Hanger Walling, SS Capt Nito Chishi, SS Lt Isak Sumi, Wishing Awoishinh and Kheka Sumi of NSCN-IM.

Security personnel had recovered two  12 Bore Rifles,  one point 22 mm Rifle, 16 live roubds of 12 Bore Rifle, 37 live rounds of point 22 mm Rifle and six detonators.

The Apprehendees alongwith recovered  items were handed over to Athibung  Police Station for further investigation.

On the other hand,  the Tuensang battalion of Assam Rifles had established mobile vehicle check post based on specific inputs about the movement of NSCN-K militant on Tuensang – Kuthur road.

During the search of a  suspected TATA 407 vehicle , one individual was apprehended alongwith one point 22 pistol with magazine, 14 live rounds and 31 SP capsule.

The apprehended individual was identified as Self Styled Lt Kiu Khum of NSCN-K.

The apprehendee alongwith  the recovered items was handed over to Police Station, Tuensang for further investigation.
