Itanagar, March 23 : The troops of Assam Rifles had busted hideout of Naga outfit group NSCN (IM) in Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday evening, officials said on Friday.
Based on specific intelligence about presence of NSCN (IM) leader Damting Tangkhul along with other militans trying to terrorize and attempting extortion at Sonking and Kharsang areas, the troops of Assam Rifles Jairampur battalion along with special forces had launched an operation at the area and busted the hideout of the Naga outfit.
“In subsequent search, the column found the hideout consisting of more than 10 temporary hutments. The militants had been using this hideout as adhoc base for operations for terrorizing and carrying out extortion in the neighboring villages,” Kohima based Defence PRO Colonel Chiranjeet Konwer said.
Security forces had apprehended a militant of the outfit identified as Ngshingbam Nalung.
Post spot interrogation he admitted allegiance to NSCN (IM) and he further divulged that he has been actively assisting and acting as Corporal for the organization and is a part of a larger group of cadres led by the notorious self styled major Damting Tangkhul of NSCN (IM).
