Imphal, April 3 : The troops of Assam Rifles had seized huge quantity of narcotics worth of Rs 16 crore in Manipur’s Moreh town, bordering with Myanmar.
Acting on a specific input about a bus modified to carry wooden planks, Assam Rifles troops had intercepted the bus at a checking post at Khudengthabi on National Highway 102 near Moreh town on Monday evening.
On through checking of the vehicle, the security personnel had recovered around 3.20 lakh numbers of contraband (World is Yours) tablets weighing 39 kgs.
A top official of Assam Rifles said that, the contraband drugs were found very well concealed in a specially modified compartment below driver and co-driver seat and cost of the drugs is estimated around Rs 16 crore in international market.
The security personnel had arrested the drug trafficker identified as Mohammad Elas Khan of Mayang Imphal in Imphal West district.
Later, the seized drugs and the drug trafficker were handed over to Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Imphal.
Myanmar is the largest producer of WIY tablets, which is brought to India through Manipur borders.
Since 2017, Assam Rifles has recovered contraband items worth around Rs 70 crore in Manipur.
In last month, Assam Rifles had seized drugs worth Rs 24 crore on NH 102 in Manipur.
