Guwahati, August 29 : A married woman was gang raped in a moving car and then thrown her on the National Highway in Assam’s Nagaon district on Tuesday night.

The shocking incident took place near Amoni area under Jakhalabandha police station in the central Assam’s district.

The woman hailing from Lanka area in central Assam’s Hojai district and was working in a local dhaba, was moving from Lanka towards Golaghat with her boyfriend on a bike.

According to the reports, the man had picked up the woman from the dhaba and they were intercepted by four men travelling on an Alto car near Nagaon and forced her into the vehicle.

The woman was raped by the men in the moving car and later the victim was dumped on the National Highway 37 near Amoni area.

The incident has come to light after a driver of an oil tanker had rescued the victim and reported the incident at Jakhalabandha police station.

The victim was immediately rushed to Nagaon civil hospital and she is undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, Nagaon police has registered a case in connection with the incident and launched operation to nab the culprits.

Superintendent of Police (SP) of Nagaon district, Shankar Barata Raimedhi said that, police has taken up the case very seriously and police teams led by senior officers are engaged to nab the culprits.

“ A woman alleged that, she was gang raped. We have taken the preliminary steps as medical treatment has been provided to the victim. A police under Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) and senior officers are attending to the case,” the Nagaon district SP said.
