Kathmandu, Nepal, December 13, 2020: A Constitutional Council meeting scheduled for 9:00 am on Sunday has been cancelled after two members- main opposition leader Sher Bahadur Deuba and speaker of the House of Representatives Agni Prasad Sapkota did not attend in the meeting.
Deuba had already informed the Prime Minister KP Oli that he would not attend in the meeting due to his busy schedule for party works. Likewise, Speaker Sapkota also did not join the meeting but attend at a meeting of the Parliamentary Legislative Committee. As per the constitutional provisions, five members including the opposition leader should be present to hold the Constitutional Council meeting.
Prime Minister Oli had called the meeting of the Constitutional Council to appoint in the vacant positions in the constitutional bodies including the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), Election Commission (EC), National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and National Women's Commission (NWC).
