Imphal : India’s north eastern state Manipur is turned as a safe haven for drugs smugglers and it was proved again after the troops of Assam Rifles had seized huge quantity of drugs worth of around Rs 12 crore from the state.
According to the reports, the Assam Rifles troops on Wednesday had recovered huge quantity of WY tablets and brown sugar from a drug peddler in Tengnoupal district in the state along with Myanmar border.
A top official of Assam Rifles said that, the troops had apprehended the drug peddler with huge quantity of brown sugar and WY tablets worth of Rs 11.96 crore.
During the preliminary interrogation, the drug peddler revealed that, it was carried from Myanmar and being transported to Shillong.
Later, the drug peddler and recovered drugs were handed over to Imphal based Narcotic Control Bureau.
In past three years, security forces had recovered huge quantity drugs worth over Rs 100 crore from different parts of the state.
On January 6 last, Manipur police had seized WY drugs, worth of Rs 3 crore from the international market area in Imphal West district.
