Kathmandu, Nepal, November 24, 2021: The Election Commission (EC), the only constitutional body responsible for the elections, has warned the political parties that it would not update their records if they issued membership to government employees including professors and teachers.
The EC has also directed it’s provincial and district offices to remove names of government employees including the professors and teachers from the parties' office bearers' lists.
The EC has made such a warn at the time when the major political parties including the ruling head Nepali Congress (NC) and the main opposition party CPN UML are inching closer to their general convention even selecting the government employees including professors and teachers and representatives of the general convention.
Though the Political Party Act prohibits the government employees including the professors and teachers to get membership of any party, it was usual to issuing party membership even to the government employees including the professors and teachers, thanks to the severe negligence to implement the act.
Section 14 (2) of the Political Party Act has clearly stated that a party cannot grant membership to incumbent professors, teachers, or government employees. But the EC had done nothing to implement the act in the past letting free to the parties to issue membership to the government employees including professors and teachers.
