Guwahati, August 3 : A hardcore militant of banned outfit National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) was killed in a fierce gun fight with security forces in Meghalaya’s East Garo Hills on Friday morning, officials said.
According to the reports, based on source information that a mixed group of NDFB cadres along with several Garo miscreants numbering about 10 were taking shelter near Tarasin village in East Garo Hills district, a police team had launched operation in the remote area.
“When the police team reached the area, the miscreants who were armed with assault rifles and pistols fired at the police team while they were approaching the village. This happened at around 6 am and after a brief exchange of fire many of the miscreants managed to flee while one of them died on the spot where the encounter took place,” East Garo Hills district Superintendent of Police (SP) R Momin said.
The slain militant was identified as Koma Boro.
Security personnel had recovered one AK series rifle along with one magazine and several rounds live ammunition from the encounter spot.
The top Meghalaya cop further said that, 3-4 miscreants may have been injured as there were many other blood trails in the place of occurence.
The dead body is being sent for post-mortem and a case has registered in connection with the incident.
