Guwahati: A hardcore militant of anti-talk faction group of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB-S) and most wanted by National Investigating Agency (NIA) was killed during a gun fight with security forces in Assam’s Chirang district along with Indo-Bhutan border on Monday morning, officials said.
Based on intelligence input about presence of NDFB-S militants who have taken shelter at a house at Belguri village under Amguri police station in the district along with Indo-Bhutan border, army and police had jointly launched operation at the remote area.
Chirang district SP Yuvraj said that, the troops of army and police had cordoned off the area and spotted two militants who trying to flee from the house through a window.
“On being asked to stop, the militants opened indiscriminate fire on security personnel and army-police troops also retaliated. During the fierce gun battle, one militant injured and other had managed to flee from the area by advantage of darkness,” the Assam cop said.
The injured militant was rushed to nearest hospital where doctor declared him as brought dead.
The slain militant was identified as Jordan Narzary alias jaolang and he was a self styled Platoon commander of the banned outfit.
Security forces had recovered one 7.62 mm pistol with magazine, two rounds of 7.62 mm live ammunition, a 0.22 mm pistol with magazine, two rounds of 0.22 mm live ammunition, one 0.36 HE hand grenade, two SIM cards, extortion notes and other warlike stores from the encounter area.
