Guwahati, February 13 : Poachers continued its killing spree in Assam's Kaziranga National Park (KNP) as killed another one horned rhinoceros inside the park in the wee hours of Wednesday and taken away its horn.
According to the reports, poachers killed the female rhino at Tunikati forest camp area under Burhapahar range of the UNESCO World heritage site.
Poachers also manged to cut away its horn.
A top official of KNP said that, forest guards found the dehorned bullet injuries carcass of the rhino inside the park and also recovered eleven empty cartridges of AK-47 rifle and Insas rifle near the carcass.
"It indicated that, poachers killed the rhino by using sophisticated weapons," the forest official said.
The incident occurred within 24 hours, following a poacher gunned down by the Special Task Force (STF) personnel in Karbi Anglong district, nearby the national park.
Kaziranga has lost 93 one horned rhinos, which were poached from 2011 to 2016.
During the period, poachers killed 147 rhinos across the state.
The Union government has given permission the Assam forest department to use drone for vigilance in the national park.
Earlier, Assam government had sent a letter to the Union Home Ministry and sought to use drone in Kaziranga following rhino killing incidents.
