Guwahati : Indian Army has always been at the forefront in embracing challenges be it in Combat, Adventure Sports, Expeditions, Aid to Civil Authority during natural calamities, disturbances or contributing towards Nation Building and in keeping with this spirit, a Cycling Expedition team from Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School located at Vairengte in Mizoram was flagged-off from Vairengte (Kolasib) on January 3.
Kohima based defence PRO Colonel Chiranjeet Konwer said that, the challenging yet adventurous route through Aizwal, Saitual, Champhai, Biate, Serchhip, Aibawk and Mamit will be flagged-in at Vairengte on Januaray 9 by Major General MS Ghura, VSM, Commandant CIJW School.
In addition to acquainting themselves with the unique topography, ecology, rich culture and heritage of Mizoram, the aim of this multi dimensional Lushai Hills Cycling Expedition - 2018 is to spread awareness about employment opportunities in Indian Army, organise Medical Camps in remote regions and spread health awareness.
The Motto of this expedition is “Awareness through Adventure”. The ten member team under the leadership of Maj Ashun Redhu will cover a distance of 700 km in the picturesque regions of Mizoram over a period of seven days.
This cycling expedition is yet another initiative of the elite Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School which apart from imparting world renowned Counter Terrorism training to combatants not only of the Indian Army but also from friendly foreign countries across the world, is also pursuing societal responsibilities in Mizoram.
