Guwahati: While the people of Assam eagerly waited for a foreigners free National Register of Citizens (NRC) and over 40,000 government officials, employees are engaged with the NRC updation process, a shocking report has come to light as a foreigner declared by the court has able to enter his name in the draft NRC published on December 31 midnight.
According to the reports, the NRC part draft published from the Lahorighat assembly constituency in middle Assam's Morigaon district has included the name of a person who was declared a foreigner by the Foreigners Tribunal in 2011.
Ali Ahmed, who was declared a foreigner by the Foreigners Tribunal on November 22, 2011 in Sivasagar district, by an order which was also affirmed by the Gauhati High Court on May 17, 2017 in WP (C) 2768/2017, has been included his name in the part draft NRC.
This fact has come to light, after Ali Ahmed has recently filed a review petition before the High Court.
Meanwhile, the Gauhati High Court in this vein has directed the state coordinator of NRC to take necessary action on the issue and next hearing for the review petition of Ali Ahmed has been scheduled on April 11 next.
The first part draft NRC was published on December 31 midnight by including 1.90 crore people out of 3.29 crore applicants.
The Supreme Court has directed the NRC authorities to publish the complete draft NRC by June 30 next.
