Guwahati : An Assam legislator became victim of cyber crime as miscreants had looted over Rs 14 lakh from his SBI account of Dispur branch in Assam’s capital city Guwahati.
According to the reports, Utpal Dutta, legislator of Asom Gana Parishad(AGP), ally party of BJP-led Assam government became victim of cyber crime.
The incident has been come to light on Friday, while wife of the AGP MLA representing Lakhimpur assembly constituency had gone to the bank to withdraw money through a cheque.
When the incident noticed by the AGP MLA, he immediately rushed to the SBI branch and came to know that his registered mobile number against the SBI account was changed on May 19 without his knowledge.
Following the incident, the Assam legislator had lodged an FIR at Dispur police station in this regard.
Utpal Dutta said in the FIR that, his account number in SBI Dispu (10821663278) has been fraudulently hacked on May 19 last.
“My phone no linked to the account has been changed on the May 19 and also
internet banking has been activated without my knowledge or permission. On requesting for the documents, the bank authorities failed to provide us the information,” the AGP MLA said in the FIR.
Miscreants had looted over Rs 14 lakh from the account of Utpal Dutta through internet banking.
Utpal Dutta said that, he didn’t know what happened.
“When my wife had gone to the bank to withdraw Rs 45,000, the bank authorities said that, there was no sufficient amount in my account. When verified the bank documents, we noticed that, my registered mobile number against the account was changed two months before,” Utpal Dutta said.
The Assam MLA alleged that, some bank employees are involved in this crime and bank authorities of the branch are not cooperating with him on the issue.
Meanwhile, police investigation is going on into the matter.
