KATHMANDU, December 19, 2025 – Following a directive from the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC), 39 schools within the metropolis have officially changed their names to better reflect Nepali identity and cultural heritage.
The KMC Education Department issued the mandate requiring educational institutions to adopt names that honor national history and local legacy.
According to the Concerned KMC officials, the initiative aims to replace foreign or non-descriptive titles with names that resonate with Nepali values.
This move follows a period of rigorous oversight by the Metropolitan City to ensure all schools comply with the School Education Management Regulations, which prioritize the promotion of indigenous identity within the academic sector.
