Guwahati: Security forces had apprehended a militant belonging to Gorkha Liberation Army (GLA) in Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday evening, officials said on Friday.
Kohima based Defence PRO Colonel Chiranjeet Konwar said that, based on intelligence input, the troops of Jairampur Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of DAO Division had launched operation at 5 mile area near Tirap gate in Arunachal's Tirap district and nabbed the militant.
The nabbed militant was identified as Self Style Lieutenant Rajesh Lama alias Ganesh Rai of GLA (Gorkha Liberation Army) and recovered a 9mm pistol in possession from him.
'Post spot interrogation he admitted allegiance to GLA further divulging that he had undergone training in a NSCN Camps and had come here for collection of money & extortion and to increase influence of GLA in the region,'Â the Defence PRO said.
Security forces have been carrying out aggressive operations in the South Arunachal Pradesh and this apprehension of a senior cadre of GLA when the outfit has just started to grow its influence has struck a big blow to nefarious plans of underground outfit.
