Guwahati: One NSCN (IM) militant was killed during a gun fight between NSCN (IM) and Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) militants in Manipur’s Noney district on Wednesday.
According to the reports, the gun fight took place at Khoupum Lubanglong area under Khoupum police station at around 11-30 am.
A top official of Manipur police said that, heavy round of bullets were exchanged from both sides and one NSCN (IM) militant was killed on spot.
The slain militant was identified as self styled Corporal Apam.
On the other hand, the Assam Rifles troops had apprehended two hardcore militants of NSCN (KN) in Nagaland’s Kohima area.
Kohima based Defence PRO Colonel Chiranjeet Konwar said that, security forces under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) conducted an operation based on specific information regarding extortion by NSCN (KN) militants in general area local ground, Kohima alongwith police representative of North Police Station.
During the operation, security forces had apprehended two NSCN (KN) militants and they were identified as self styled Leacy Neikepeo Angami and self styled Major Mejukhrei.
Security personnel had recovered cash receipts of Govt of Peoples Republic of Nagaland, Angami region (GPRN/NSCN), 120 numbers cash receipt of Govt of Peoples Republic of Nagaland, Ministry of Chaplee affairs, 97 numbers work permit of NSCN (KN), Govt of Peoples Republic of Nagaland, Angami Region letter heads 3 blank pads, cash of Rs 3,430, Hyundai Accent Car bearing regd No NL 02C 7989 (left near Phulbari) and personal documents.
“Self styled Leacy Neikepeo Angami revealed that he has been carrying out extortion for NSCN (KN) and was appointed as SS Leacy since Aug 2018. There were four members in his team doing extortion for past one week in Kohima as SS Maj Mejukhrei confessed that he was Ex Nagaland Police person, arrested and expelled by Police in 2013 and admitted that he has a point 7.65 Pistol and 07 live rounds of ammunition however location of the weapon and ammunition was not revealed by him.
The nabbed militants alongwith recovered items handed over to North Police Station, Kohima for further investigation.
