Guwahati : Assam education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said that, only 6 per cent schools of eight districts were graded A+ following evaluation of schools and students in the first phase of 'Gunotsav' in the state.
 
Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, the Assam minister said that, a total of 12,286 schools in Chirang, Barpeta, Kamrup (Metro), Morigaon, Hailakandi, Lakhimpur, Dibrugarh and West Karbi Anglong were evaluated and a total of 7,15,930 students were appeared in the evaluation.
 
'Following the evaluation, we have found only 777 schools or 6 per cent schools were managed to grade A+. Apart from it 2323 or 19 per cent schools graded A, 3106 or 25 per cent schools under B grade, 3302 or 27 per cent schools were graded C and 2778or 23 per cent schools under D grade,' Sarma said.
 
For performance of skills which included reading, writing and numericals, only 17 per cent students from Class 2-8 were scored A+.
 
'About 43 per cent students of Class 2-8 graded D on reading, writing and numeracy performance,' Sarma said.
 
The Assam minister said that, about 4.6 per cent students of Class 6-8 scored A+ in subjects performance, while 10 per cent graded A and B, 19 per cent under C and 55 per cent graded D.
 
'After evaluating, we found that, there were certain gaps with respect to teaching, training and infrastructure. Learning from this, a remedial plan has been taken to reduce the gaps. We also plan to provide individual report card to each student in confidentiality during in parents-teacher meeting,' the Assam education minister said.
 
'Each student's result and report card to be shared within 7 days from  declaration of results with all stakeholders on day of parents-teacher  meeting. Students with grade C and D will be provided remedial coaching by  the concerning school under School Managing Committee (SMC) monitoring from  August next,' Sarma said.
 
On the other hand, the Assam minister announced the second phase of Gunotsav would be held from September 19-22 next in 12 districts of the state of Cachar, Jorhat, Charaideo, Sivsagar, Tinsukia, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Udalguri, Dima Hasao, Karbi Anglong, Kamrup and Nagaon.
