Guwahati, January 17 : Over 100 companies of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) would be deployed in Meghalaya during upcoming assembly polls.

A top official of Meghalaya home development said that, the Union Home Ministry has already approved to deploy 100 CAPF companies in the state during assembly elections.

"The state home department has been sought 107 CAPF companies from the centre," the top official said.

Meanwhile, Meghalaya Additional DGP B L Buam said that, the sanctioned forces would be deployed in the state before the polls.

"18 CAPF companies have been already engaged in the state to maintain law and order," the top Meghalaya cop said.

The Election Commission of India is yet to announce the poll dates, but the polls are likely to be held next month.

As per the electoral roll published recently, a total of 18,30,104 voters will exercise their franchise at 3,082 polling booths in Meghalaya in the upcoming assembly polls.
