Guwahati: Assam police has arrested 23 persons so far for their alleged involvements in the mob lynching of the two youth artists from Guwahati in the name of child lifters (locally called Xupadhora) in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district on June 8 evening.
Assam police ADGP (Law & Order) Mukesh Agarwala said that, police has arrested eight persons on Monday in connection with the case (33/2018) has been registered at Dokmoka police station under section 302/34 of IPC.
The arrested persons have been identified as Bor Kro, Khaosing Bey, Rupsing Kro, Inocen Engti, Premson Enghi, Bishnuram Boro, Pilarson Ingti and Sikari Rongpi.
The top police official said that, police had earlier arrested 15 persons in the bizarre incident and they are Anuj Timung, Babu Rongpi, Sarukon Swargiary, Biju Basumatary, Biswaram Swargiary, Dhonda Mech, Dhono Mech, Dipjyoti Basumatary, Pantheng Basumatary, Ram Swargiary, Umesh Khaklary, Sanjay Terong, Bidyasingh Rongpi Anand Rongpi, Raju Bey.
Bhupendra Terang had circulated fake message of child lifters in social media.
Another 230 people are in police radar.
Meanwhile, Assam police has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Kamal Rajbongshi, Inspector of Borpathar police station including Karbi Anglong district Superintendent of Police (SP) GV Ganjawala to probe into the lynching incident.
The other members of the SIT are ASP Indrani Baruah, DSP N Singsong,
Officer-in-Charge of Howraghat police station Jatin Chandra Das, Officer-in-Charge of Dokmoka police station JS Khowbung.
