Guwahati, June 22 : A major setback to Paresh Baruah alias Paresh Asom led United Liberation Front of Asom – Independent (ULFA-I) after six top militants of the banned outfit group had surrendered before Assam police in Guwahati on Thursday.
The six militants had deposited several sophisticated weapons.
According to the Assam police, the surrendered ULFA-I militants were fed up with the activities of their leaders, like kidnapping of indigenous workers of tea gardens, destroying the tea industry in Assam, difficulties faced in Myanmar and scant regard of the leaders to resolve their problems etc.
The militants who surrendered before Assam police are – Pranab Gogoi alias Suklang Asom, Apurba Moran alias Mridu Asom, Satyajit Moran alias Manab Asom, Jishu Doley alias Syang Asom, Rituraj Moran alias Durlav Asom and Abhijit Gohain alias Anuj Asom.
The militants had deposited one AK-56 rifle, one HK 33 rifle, one MQ 81 rifle, two grenades, 8 magazines, 301 rounds live ammunition, TNT powder and other warlike stores.
