Guwahati : Concerning about rising crimes against women in Assam, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday directed all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Superintendents of Police (SP) of all districts to ensure swift and correct filling of charge-sheet in all crimes against women and children so that justice can be given to the victims.

Chaired a law and order meeting with DCs and SPs of all districts through video conferencing at his conference hall at Janata Bhawan in Guwahati, the Assam CM said that, no criminal should be able to get away taking advantage of the loopholes in law and that must be ensured by filing an accurate charge-sheet, he said.

Sonowal also directed the DCs and SPs to conduct intensive awareness campaigns with active participation of students, teachers, NGOs, village heads (gao burhas), village defence forces, panchayat members, ASHA
workers, anganwadi workers etc so that people are made aware to prevent heinous crimes taking place against children and women in all corners of the state.

The Assam CM directed the SPs of all districts to personally monitor all such cases.

Issuing a directive to the DCs of all districts to ensure completion of repair works of embankments within stipulated timeframe through strict monitoring, Sonowal instructed DC Jorhat to prevent erosion caused by Brahmaputra River at Nimati Ghat by monitoring the works closely.

He also directed the DCs and SPs of Dibrugarh and Dhemaji Districts to ensure speedy completion of Bogibeel Bridge so that it can be opened for the public at an early date.

“Infrastructure development related all national projects must be accorded top priority by the DCs and SPs,” Sonowal said.

The Assam CM directed the SPs of all districts to act strongly against drug trafficking and illegal syndicates.
