Kathmandu, Nepal: The Supreme Court (SC) has on Thursday ordered the government to furnish a written statement within 10 days about the preparation preparations made from the side of the government for holding all the three tiers of elections by January 21, 2018 in line with the provisions of the constitution.
A division bench of SC, the apex court of the country, Justices Hari Krishna Karki and Anil Sinha made the verdict responding to a writ petition filed by Advocate Chandra Kanta Gyawali and others.
The verdict has come in the mean time when there is looming suspicions that the government would not hold three tiers of elections within the stipulated timeframe even though the government has declared the date of May 14 for the local level elections.
The writ was filed claiming that the government has not been preparing for holding the elections of all three tiers- local, provincial and federal- by January 21, the time frame fixed by the constitution of Nepal.
