Kathmandu, Nepal: the tenure of the two transitional justice mechanisms – the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and Commission for the Investigation of Enforced Disappeared Persons (CIEDP) has been extended by one year.
A cabinet meeting held on Thursday made the decision to extend the tenure of TRC and the CIEDP.
As the tenure of the two commissions, formed on February 10, 2015, was expiring today, a cabinet meeting was called hurriedly today to make the decision to extend the tenure.
Though the commissions were formed to investigate the incidents of serious human rights violations committed during the conflict era within a year, nothing is done except gathering complaints.
The TRC has gathered 58,000 complaints while the CIEDP has gathered 28,000 complaints so far.
