Guwahati, April 5 : When the Assam government started Gunotsav programme by covering eight districts in the state, the infrastructure of thousands of government run primary schools are in pathetic conditions.
According to the government data, over 1200 primary schools are still running with a single teacher and thousands of government run primary schools are confined to single classroom.
The state government has started the Gunotsav programme in Barpeta, Chirang, Dibrugarh, Hailakandi, Kamrup (Metro), Lakhimpur, Morigaon and West Karbi Anglong district.
A top source of the state elementary education department said that, most of schools in West Karbi Anlong district have faced lot of problems including poor building, single classroom, road connectivity etc.
'Many schools have no furniture in classrooms and lack teaching staff, toilets, clean drinking water and playground. Actually RTI Act is properly implemented in most of government run primary schools in the state,'the top source said.
The Gunotsav programme will cover 12320 schools in first phase including 741 primary schools in West Karbi Anglong district.
