Guwahati, March 29 : At least three people including a woman were killed when an oil tanker turned turtle and exploded on NH-37 near Jakhalabandha in middle Assam's Nagaon district on Wednesday morning.
According to the reports, the driver of the oil tanker, bound for Guwahati from Upper Assam reportedly lost his control of the vehicle bearing registration of AS-01-HC-3722 which overturned on NH-37 at Baghjaan.
A top police official said that, the tanker exploded resulting in oil leakage and a devastating fire which led to the death of three persons including a woman on spot.
At least four houses near the highway and two other vehicles were completely gutted in the fire.
The police official said that, the driver and his associate of the oil tanker were died on spot and a woman also died after her house caught by fire.
The houses of Ganesh Karmakar, Jiten Karmakar and Patiram Ganjur near the highway were also completely gutted in the fire.
Meanwhile, fire tenders and top police officials had rushed to the area and launched operation to control the fire.
