Guwahati: To boost the air connectivity in the North East India, Manipur government today launched the first helicopter service of the state.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh had launched the Manipur Heli Service (MHA) between Imphal to Jiribam at Harinagar helipad in Jiribam district.

The Manipur CM also inaugurated Harinagar helipad and Ima Keithel helipad.

According to the Transport department of Manipur government, the helicopter service will be operated on daily basis except on Sunday and public holiday and fare for one way travel is Rs 3000 per person.

The flying time of the chopper service will be around 30 minutes while vehicles take nearly 10 hours to reach Imphal from Jiribam.

Noida based state-run Pawan Hans Ltd is providing the helicopter services in Manipur with an eight-seater chopper.

Earlier, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya, Assam and Sikkim had launched helicopter services in the states.

The Union government is giving wings to its Act East policy to improve air connectivity in the north eastern region and also eying to build ties with the South East Asian countries.

The Union government has identified 16 new destinations in the north eastern region under its UDAN scheme.
