Guwahati, February 23 : A suspected Naga militant and a tribal woman were killed during a gunfight between suspected ultras and security forces in poll bound Manipur on Thursday, officials said. 
 
Following a tip off 2/5 Gorkha Rifles men had conducted search operation at Khoupum Chingthak area in Noney district on Thursday morning.
 
When the troops reached the remote area, suspected militants who hidden at the area fired at them and the army personnel returned fire and in the ensuing encounter, a militant and a tribal woman were killed.
 
Manipur police said that, the tribal woman was identified as 50-year old Adingu Rongmei, was killed in the crossfire.
 
Two days back, a security personnel was injured when suspected NSCN (IM) militants fired at a police party deployed for the visit of Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam in the newly created district.
 
The militants also attacked on the Gaikhangam's cavalcade, but the Manipur Deputy CM was escaped unhurt.
 
Manipur is going to hold the assembly polls on March 4 and 8 in two phases.
 
The north eastern Indian state witnessed several problems including scarcity of essential commodities, petroleum products, drugs following the ongoing economic blockade imposed by the United Naga Council (UNC) since November 1 last.
