Ilam, Nepal: Former Prime Minister and CPN-UML senior leader Jhalanath Khanal has been elected as member of the federal parliament from Ilam-1. Khanal elected by  defeating his closest rival Bhupendra Kattel of Nepali Congress NC by a margin of 17,170 votes. Khanal garnered 36,807 votes while Kattel garnered just 19,637 votes.
 
Likewise, CPN-UML leader and common candidate of the leftist alliance Kajiman Kagate has been elected with 17,896 votes in Ilam Province 'A' by defeating Nepali Congress’s candidate Durga Baral.
 
Similarly, former Speaker and CPN-UML leader Subas Chandra Nembang has also been elected from Ilam-2. Nembang has garnered 36,514 votes while his nearest rival Keshav Thapa from Nepali Congress secured just 26,860 votes.
