Guwahati, Sep 1 : Assam on Saturday has published the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) by leaving out over 19 lakh people.
Now uncertainty hangs over the fate of 19 lakh people who have been left out of the final NRC list.
Out of 3,30,27,661 applicants, 3,11,21,004 persons are have been found eligible for inclusion in the final NRC.
The 19 lakh include those who did not submit their claims.
While the final NRC has released, political reactions have also come out over the list.
BJP MLA Shiladitya Dev, who represented Hojai constituency said that, today the Bangladeshi infiltrators have become resident of Assam and their names enlisted in the NRC list with the help of fake papers.
"First of all I like to congratulate the Supreme Court, the state Government of Assam under the leadership of Sarbananda Sonowal, RGI and all the residents of Assam because this is the first time in 34 years NRC list has came out in Assam. I am also against this NRC list because there is doubt regarding the procedure of NRC. It was said that during the time of Assam Movement at least 80 lakhs of Bangladeshi infiltrators came to Assam thus today I thought that around 1 crore Bangladeshi Muslims will be there in Assam. They have also gone to various other districts from Assam but by this NRC, today they have became a resident of Assam. People of Assam have done the movement to protect the Assamese community. They have not protested against any Hindu visitors. They have protested against the Bangladeshi Muslims but today their names are enlisted in the NRC list with the help of fake papers. The people who came here before 1971 were not there in the list. The environment has been created like there has been no infiltration of Bangladeshi Muslims. Thus I did not support this NRC. Money or fear which ever may be the reason be the reason but I am not with this NRC. I have received more than 400 threat calls because I am talking against the Bangladeshi Muslims from the last three years. I think the chief coordinator must have received this kind of threat calls and he was afraid of those thus he must have surrendered to them," Shiladitya Dev said.
He further said that, there have been also some corrupt practises and no one has any idea about the software used by the NRC authority.
"Software has not liked the legacy data of 1951, 1966 and 1971. Thus the legacy data of one family has been used by the other. Thus I request for an investigation after it comes under the state government from the Supreme Court. There might be scope of RTI so that get the information by filing RTI. Supreme Court has earlier said that no one should receive any data but there lies a question. How 2.5 lakhs of ARN numbers did reached asu? The data entry operators are private people. I am shocked that court has belief in those private people but not in Central Government, State Government or the people of Assam. I do not believe in the NRC that we received today from the citizens of other state. They are not protecting the Assamese community but they have become the protecting armour for the Bangladeshi Muslims," the Assam BJP MLA said.
On the other hand, reacting over the final NRC list, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi attacked on the BJP and said that, the entire exercise - these poeple voted for them and now they are being excluded.
"Their own minister Himanta Biswa sarma was asking a recertification of the bordering states - why? It was their own officers who considered this exercise - SC only asks for a review," Gaurav Gogoi said.
"Congress party started the process of NRC under Dr Manmohan singh , But the objective was to find out how many are genuine Indian citizens how many are intruders, illegal immigrants no one had any numbers - BJP has failed," the Congress MP said.
On the other hand, Assam state BJP Secretary and Spokesman Mominul Aowal said that "Earlier when NRC list got out some has distributed sweets and I have eaten it. But now the same people are opposing this final list of NRC which was published today."
"Lok Sabha, Assam Bidhan Sabha and Governor of Assam have published a report that more than 50 lakhs infiltrators are there in Assam. But here in this list where are those infiltrators. According to the latest list 19 lakhs of people are missing and among them there are also some residents of Assam. The people of Assam are not happy with this NRC because whose names are not meant to come in this list has come and whose names are meant to be here are not here," Mominul Aowal said.
The All India United Democratic Alliance (AIUDF) welcomed the list and thanked the Supreme Court for taking the initiative to ascertain genuine citizens.
AIUDF General Secretary Aminul Islam said that, in past four decades, the foreigners issue has been festering in the state, but no government was willing to resolve the problem.
"The Supreme Court has taken initiative of NRC updation to ascertain the genuine Indian citizens. All Muslims in the state were wrongly referred to as illegal Bangladeshis. But now the NRC will help to establish actually who is an Indian and who is a foreigner," Aminul Islam said.
The Ministry of Home Affairs had earlier said that, those people will be excluded from the final list, they will not be called as 'foreigner'. They will be given 120 days to appeal before the Foreigners' Tribunals.
There are 100 Foreigners Tribunals in Assam and the state government will set up 221 more Foreigners Tribunals in coming weeks.
Now a question raised that, who will listen to these 19 lakh to 20 lakh cases?
The judicial system of our country is not well equipped at all to hear them in the next 120 days.
