Guwahati, Sep 22 : A woman was attacked, stripped by villagers and rubbed chilli powder in her private parts for allegedly selling illegal liquor in Assam’s Karimganj district.

The incident was happened on September 10 and it has been noticed when the video went viral in social media.

The incident took place at a remote tribal village under Nagra police station in the Barak Valley district along with Assam-Mizoram border.

According to the reports, the villagers warned the woman for her alleged involvement with anti-social activities in many occasions.

On September 10, some local people caught the woman and some local women attacked and stripped her in public place.

The local women also rubbed chilli powder in her private parts.

When the video went viral in social media, Karimganj district police had immediately registered a case and started investigation.

Karimganj district Superintendent of Police (SP) Gaurav Upadhyay said that, police came to know about the incident after the video was circulated in social media.

“The incident took place at Nagra area and happened on September 10. The area, where the incident took place, is dominated by Mizo Riang tribal people. The villagers and also police warned the woman to avoid anti-social activities. The villagers assaulted the lady by taking law in their hand. All accused are ladies seen in the video. I asked police officers to arrest all people who involved in the incident. We have also issued show cause notice to the Officer-in-Charge of Nagra police station,” the top police official said.

On the other hand, the victim woman had also filed a case in the court of the Karimganj Chief Judicial Magistrate.
