Kathmandu, Nepal, February 6, 2023: Bird flu infection has been confirmed in three places in the Kathmandu Valley. The newly detected bird flu in Lalitpur and Kathmandu is characterized as highly pathogenic H5N1 strain of avian influenza.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development (MoALD) has confirmed the detection of the bird flu. World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) has also cautioned about the bird flu.
The bird flu infection has been confirmed in chickens reared in Khumaltar of Lalitpur district and Tarakeswar Municipality and Ramkot area of Nagarjun Municipality in Kathmandu district, MoALD Spokesperson Prakash Kumar Sanjel said.
Likewise, infection of A (H5N1), which is also known as bird flu or avian influenza virus, was confirmed in a Turkey farm of Lalitpur-based Nepal Agriculture Research Council (NARC) in Khumaltar on last Friday.
