SAN FRANCISCO:The "Nepal Trade and Investment Opportunity" program was recently held in California, marking a significant step toward strengthening economic cooperation between Nepal and the United States. Jointly organized by the Nepali Embassy in Washington, D.C., the Nepali Consulate General in San Francisco, and the Honorary Consulate General in San Diego, the event served as a platform to showcase Nepal’s potential as a growing hub for international business and trade.

A primary focus of the discussions was Nepal’s commitment to building a stable and welcoming environment for global investors. Led by Charge d’Affaires Sharadraj Aran and supported by Consul General Laxman Khanal and Honorary Consul General Rishi Puna Khar Dhakal, the Nepali delegation explained how recent political and policy shifts have made the country more "investment-friendly." Mr. Dhakal emphasized that attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) is a top priority for the nation’s economic strategy.

The program featured detailed presentations on five high-growth sectors where Nepal offers unique advantages: hydropower, information technology, agriculture, tourism, and infrastructure. By highlighting these areas, the delegation aimed to attract American expertise and capital into projects that could transform Nepal's economy, such as tapping into its massive water resources for clean energy or leveraging its growing pool of tech talent.

U.S. federal representatives, including Leticia Arias, Christopher Vilkens, and William Powels, along with officials from the Department of Commerce and the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp., participated in the dialogue. The talks moved beyond general introductions to focus on practical goals, such as increasing the export of Nepali products to American markets and establishing long-term, results-oriented partnerships between businesses in both nations.

The event concluded with an interactive session that allowed business leaders and members of the Nepali diaspora to engage directly with officials. This open dialogue helped clarify technical questions regarding regulations and diplomatic services. Organizers expressed optimism that this face-to-face collaboration will pave the way for more institutionalized economic ties and a deeper diplomatic relationship between Kathmandu and Washington in the years to come.
