Guwahati, July 26 : Assam police have unearthed a racket being run in which money was allegedly being taken from students to pass in examination in the Assam Down Town University.

Police has arrested three persons including one faculty member of the Deputy Controller of the university located at Panikhaiti area under Pragjyotishpur police station, outskirts of Guwahati city.

According to the reports, the Guwahati police had arrested the Deputy Controller of the university identified as Arup Jyoti Dev Sharma on Wednesday in connection with the cash-for-result scam of the university.

Earlier, police had arrested two persons namely Gunajeet Choudhury, a faculty member of the university and Jalnur Uddin Ahmed, ex-student of the university in connection with the scam.

According to the reports, some passed-out students and some faculty members of the university are being allegedly running the scam.

On suspicion it, the university author had lodged a complaint at the Pragjyotishpur police station on June 25 this year and police had registered a case (no – 133/2018) under sections 120B/420 of IPC.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of Guwahati city police Purabi Mazumdar said that, the university authority had lodged an FIR and a case has been registered at Pragjyotishpur police station.

“During investigation, we found that some students and faculty members of the university have collected money from students to pass in the examination. These persons had targeted the students who not done well in the examination,” Purabi Mazumdar said.

The Assam Down Town University is a state private university and was established in 2010.

Meanwhile, police investigation is going on.
