Kathmandu, Nepal, February 23, 2026: A tragic bus accident in Dhading early Monday morning has claimed the lives of 17 people and 24 others injured.

 

According to police, a passenger bus (registration number Ga 1 Kha 1421) traveling from Pokhara to Kathmandu plunged into the Trishuli River at approximately 1:30 AM on Monday. The accident occurred at Bhaisegouda, Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-5, along the Prithvi Highway.
 

Rescue operations were launched immediately following the crash. A team led by DSP Sunil Giri from the Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal, Disaster Management Base Adamghat, was deployed to the site. Additionally, a specialized rescue team, including divers from the Disaster Management Training Institute in Kurintar, was mobilized, according to APF Spokesperson DIG Bishnu Prasad Bhatta.

 

He confirmed that 17 bodies were recovered at the scene. The 24 injured passengers were rescued and transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. Police stated that the process of identifying the deceased and the injured is currently underway.

 

An investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
