Guwahati, July 25 : Security forces had gunned down one hardcore militant belonging to NDFS-S in Assam's Kokrajhar district in the early hours on Tuesday, officials said.
According to the reports, based on intelligence input, army and police had jointly launched operation at Natun Bashbari area in the BTAD district on Monday night.
"When the troops reached the remote area, the militants hidden at the area had started fire and bullets were exchanged. During the gun battle a hardcore militant killed on spot," a top police official said.
Other militants had managed to escape from the area.
Security forces had recovered one AK-47 rifle, a hand grenade and large quantity of ammunition from the encounter spot.
The slain militant is yet to be identified.
The area have been cordoned off and combing operation launched.
