Kathmandu, Nepal: Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, who is on a three-day state visit to Nepal, performed ‘special pooja’ at Pashupatinath Temple on Thursday morning.
Indian President Mukherjee performed the special pooja by lightning lakh batti (100,000 wicks) in front of the Pashupatinath Temple. Lightning lakh batti is regarded as the special pooja as per the Hindu religion.
He was welcomed by 108 Batuk (Hindu boys) by chanting Swasti mantras. Likewise he was also welcomed with panchai baja and thime baja as well.
The security agencies had mentioned tight security in and around the areas. The temple premises were decorated with colorful flowers to welcome the Indian President Mukherjee.
Thursday’s scheduled program of Mukherjee
As per the scheduled program, Indian President Mukherjee will receive honorary doctorate from Kathmandu University and grace a civic reception organized by Kathmandu Metropolitan City in his honor today.
Following the civic reception Mukherjee will address a seminar on Nepal-India relations jointly organized by the Indian foundation Neeti Prathisthan Nepal and Nepal Centre for Contemporary Studies.
Friday’s scheduled program of Mukherjee
The Indian President will visit Janakpur and Pokhara on Friday. In Janakpur, he is scheduled to perform special pooja at Ram Janaki temple.
