Kathmandu, Nepal: Major three political parties- Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) have agreed to extend the deadline to the Local Body Restructuring Commission (LBRC) to submit its report by a month.

The meeting of the top leaders of the major three parties held at the Prime Minister’s Office in Singha Durbar on Monday decided to extend the deadline till mid-November.

This is the second time that the deadline to submit the report is extended. Though the commission’s deadline was expiring mid-October it has not finalized its report due to the differences among the parties even in the local level.

Likewise, the meeting has also urged the commission to make the pervious area units (ilakas) as the main basis for restructuring the local units under the new federal setup.

The major three parties had already agreed in principle to make the Ilakas as the base while fixing the local units. However, the understanding is slammed from different sectors including the commission.

If the Ilakas were taken as the basis, there will be around 900 local units. However, the commission has already proposed for 565 local units.
