Australian Climber Dies on Himlung Himal Ascent

An Australian mountaineer, Chin-Tark Chan, 49, has died while attempting to climb the 7,126-meter (23,379-foot) Himlung Himal in Nepal.
 
Mr. Chan reportedly fell ill on October 29 during his ascent of the peak. A tourism official confirmed that his body was discovered lifeless at an altitude of 6,100 meters (approximately Camp 3).
 
The initial rescue efforts to retrieve the climber were reportedly hampered by severe weather conditions in the mountainous region. The official cause of death remains unknown at this time.
