Kathmandu, Nepal, May 24, 2022: Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi has said on Monday that his country rejects any attempt to introduce military blocs and block confrontation in the Asia-Pacific region.

Addressing the opening ceremony of the 78th session of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) via video link on Monday Wang said ‘countries in the region should reject the attempt for a military bloc or camp confrontation.

‘The region should unswervingly maintain peace and stability, adhere to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, and unequivocally reject any attempt to introduce military bloc or camp confrontation into the Asia-Pacific region,’ Wang said adding ‘the peace and prosperity of the Asia-Pacific region is not only about the fate of the region, but also about the future of the world.’

Wang had made the statement just ahead of the Quad summit to be held in Tokyo on Tuesday in which US President Joe Biden, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and many others are attending.

Earlier, Wang had stated that the Indo-Pacific strategy is causing more and more vigilance and concern in the international community, especially in the Asia-Pacific region.

China had repeatedly been casting its suspicion that the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact project that Nepal has already ratified from the parliament as per the agreement between Nepal government and the US government would be a part of the Indo-Pacific strategy.

Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has reached in Tokyo of Japan to participate in Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) meeting, said that his country is committed to a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.

India is committed to a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific region and pitched for deepening of economic engagement among partners with a view to achieve the goal of continued growth, peace and prosperity, Modi had stated.
