Kathmandu, Nepal, May 15, 2023: CPN UML’s suspended secretary Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, who was arrested on Sunday late evening on the charge of involving in fake Bhutanese refugee scam, is being presented today at Kathmandu district court seeking permission to take into custody more days for further investigation.
Rayamajhi, who had been absconding since the court issued an arrest warrant against him two weeks ago in connection with the fake Bhutanese refugee scam, was arrested on Sunday evening from Budhanilakantha area of Kathmandu. It is said that he was arrested while he was hiding at a home of his close friend.
Rayamajhi, who is also a member of the elected representatives of CPN UML from Arghakhanchi district for the post of member of federal parliament, is accused of being involved in a racket of sending people to the United States identifying them as Bhutanese refugees.
Police had issued an arrest warrant against Rayamajhi on May 3. Since then, however, he was absconding. Police have already arrested his son Sandeep and others on the charge of involving in the same scam.
