EHC of the parliament endorses NMEB Bypassing the Provision of Previous Agreement Signed with Dr. KC, Main Opposing NC Opposes the Bill
  Kathmandu, Nepal      January 10 2019

Kathmandu, Nepal: Contradicting to the agreement signed between the government and the agitating senior orthopedic doctor Govinda KC, the Education and Health Committee  (EHC) of the House of Representatives endorsed the National Medical Education Bill (NMEB) on Thursday.

Nepali Congress lawmakers, who represent to the committee — Gagan Thapa, Uma Kanta Chaudhary, Namita Chaudhary and Man Bahadur Bishwakarma — wrote a note of dissent on the bill.

The parliamentary committee signed on the bill just after a day that Dr. KC started fresh hunger strike in Ilam district to protest the parliamentary panel’s draft bill prepared without incorporating the points of his deal.

As the bill allows the universities to grant affiliation to medical colleges outside Kathmandu valley if such colleges have already taken letter of intent and meet the required criteria, it stands against of the nine point agreement signed between the government and Dr. KC.
