Elections begin to elect the new leadership of the NRNA

Kathmandu, Nepal, October 19, 2023: The ongoing 11th National Convention of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) is going to elect a new leadership for the upcoming term. As all the efforts to elect the leadership unanimously failed, a new leadership is going to be chosen through elections process.

NRNA convention delegates in Nepal have started voting from 10 am today while the delegates of the NRNA convention abroad have been voting through the online voting system since last night. The voting will be continue 6 pm today, the election committee has said. 

Of the total 4,227 delegates, about 900 delegates are casting their votes from Nepal while others living abroad are casting throng online voting system.

Three candidates -Badri KC, Mahesh Shrestha and Rajendra Kumar Sharma are competing for the post of president with their respective panels. 

Ravina Thapa, the current president of the working committee, also filed her candidacy for the post of president, but she withdrew her candidacy at the end. 

Thapa, who was initially considered a strong candidate for the post of president, has said that she withdrew her candidacy after her efforts for unanimous leadership failed.

This convention will elect 74 officers of the International Coordinating Council including one president, one women and youth, eight vice presidents, one general secretary, six secretaries and a treasurer.
