Kamal Thapa elected as the chairman of the RPP

Kathmandu, Nepal: Kamal Thapa has been elected as the chairman of the united Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP). The ongoing general convention of the party elected Thapa with overwhelming majority for next four years.
 
Thapa has secured 2,804 votes out of 3136 total valid votes.  Thapa’s only contestant Pradeep Bikram Rana garnered only 251 votes. 81 votes were invalid.  The convention was kicked off in Kathmandu on February 17.
 
The first convention of the party is also dubbed as the unity convention after the unification of Thapa-led RPP-Nepal and Pashupati Shamsher Rana-led RPP had. The convention is going to elect 98-member central committee. Vote counting of other members is underway at convection venue, Bhirkutimandap of Kathmandu.
