Surkhet, Nepal, October 11, 2020: No confidence motion has been registered against the Chief Minister (CM) of Karnali Province, Mahendra Bahadur Shahi.

18 lawmakers of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) have registered no confidence motion to the chief party whip of the parliamentary party, Gulab Jung Shah on Sunday.

The no confidence motion registered by the lawmakers of the ruling party against of the chief minister is taken importantly from different sectors.

Though the lawmakers, who have registered the no confidence motion have alleged Shahi for performing a feeble presence in parliament, internal rift, particularly the division between the formerly CPN UML and the CPN Maoist Center is believed as the reason behind the registration of the no confidence motion.

Among the 18 lawmakers, fifteen members of the provincial assembly were from the former CPN-UML while only three are from the erstwhile CPN (Maoist Center).

As the Karnali Province Assembly has a total of 33 lawmakers, he would be removed from the post of the chief minister.

Article 188 (3) of the Constitution of Nepal has made a provision that chief minister can be dismissed through a majority vote.
