Kathmandu, Nepal, July 13, 2021: Newly appointed Prime Minister Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has been administered oath of office and secrecy. President Bidya Devi Bhandari administered oath of office and secrecy to Deuba amid a function at late evening on Tuesday.
Though the oath taking ceremony was scheduled for 6:00 pm on Tuesday, it was delayed about two hours after Deuba, who is also the Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader, denied to take oath of office and secrecy protesting the appointment decision made sans mentioning the constitutional provisions.
As the office of the president revises the notice specifying that Deuba was appointed as the prime Minister in accordance with Article 76 (5) of the Constitution, Deuba present to take the oath of office at the office of the President.
Earlier today, the office of the president had issued a notice stating that Deuba has been appointed as the prime Minister as per the Monday’s Supreme Court's verdict.
The Supreme Court had on Monday passed a verdict stating that Deuba must be appointed as the Prime Minister in line with Article 76 (5) of the Constitution. The same verdict had also reinstated the dissolved parliament.
Newly appointed Prime Minister Deuba has appointed four ministers- two each from Nepali Congress and CPN (Maoist Centre).
Balkrishna Khand and Gyanendra Bahadur Karki of Nepali Congress have been appointed as Home Minister and Minister for Law and Parliamentary affairs, respectively.
Likewise, Pampha Bhusal and Janardan Sharma of Maoist Centre have been appointed as Minister for Energy and Minister for Finance respectively.
The newly appointed ministers were also administered oath of office and secrecy at the same function on Tuesday.
