Oli led faction of the ruling NCP appoints Bhattarai as chief whip; dismissing Gurung

Kathmandu, Nepal, February 26, 2021: The Prime Minister KP Oli led faction of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has named Bishal Bhattarai as chief whip of the party dismissing Dev Prasad Gurung from the post.

As Gurung has aligned to the NCP's Dahal-Nepal faction, Oli led NCP's parliamentary party had decided to nominate Bhattarai in place of Gurung. Following the decision of the parliamentary party, Prime Minister Oli appointed Bhattrai amid a function on Friday. Oli is the parliamentary party leader of the party. 

The decision to change the party's chief whip is taken as an indication that Oli would not have intended to unite the party as such a decision has comes at a time when consensus attempts are underway in the party. 

With the decision, the Dahal-Nepal faction of the NCP would register no-confidence motion in the parliament against the Prime Minister Oli.
