Kathmandu, Nepal, May 24, 2021: The KP Oli-led faction of the ruling CPN-UML has expelled 11 leaders and lawmakers of the dissolved House of Representatives (HoR) including senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhala Nath Khanal.
A Standing Committee meeting of the Oli-led faction of the ruling UML held on Monday evening took the decision to expel the dissident leaders even from party's general membership on charge of supporting opposition parties to oust the UML-led government.
Those expelled lawmakers include Mukunda Neupane, Pushpa Karna Kayastha, Kalyani Khadka, Ram Kumari Jhankri, Kalila Khatun, Sarala Yadav, Pushpa Kumari Karna and Nira Devi Jaisi including senior leaders Nepal and Khanal.
As about 28 lawmakers of the ruling UML had extended support to form a new government under the leadership of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, the Oli-led faction had on Saturday sought clarification from 11 lawmakers for extending their support to oust the UML-led government.
With the decision to expel the dissident leaders from the party, the ruling UML has headed towards the official split even though it was already divided technically. Following the differences in the party, a new party named as CPN (Unified) has already been registered with the Election Commission by a cadres loyal to the dissident faction.
Likewise, the meeting has also decided to seek clarification from 12 other lawmakers of the party for the same charge of involvement in supporting the opposition alliance to oust the UML-led government.
